Congratulations to all of you for making it through the majority of your midterms! As most of you know, SUE has been very productive since the last newsletter with successful events including the Fidelity Investments Info Session and the Student-Prof Mixer. However, much like your courses, SUE's fall events are nowhere near done!
We have been extremely impressed with the level of attendance and participation you have all shown during the stressful midterm season. The events in this newsletter are continuing to encourage your active participation in SUE as members of the economics community. So read more below to find out where you can make a difference for SUE and where SUE can make a difference for you!
We are always looking to have you participate as much as possible in this club's community by giving us feedback as well. As we begin planning events for the coming semester, we encourage you to share your ideas! Send us an email, or contact us on social media. Your views are extremely valuable to the growth of this club.
As always, here are the featured events you can learn about in this newsletter:

Food Drive Competition!
CV and Resume Writing Seminar
Industry Night Gala- Networking Opportunity!
We strongly encourage you to come out to these events, even if it feels as though studying is the only priority. Each event is a great opportunity to connect with your fellow economics students!Food Drive Competition
Christmas is fast approaching and for many of us that means large dinners, Christmas parties, and more consumption of sweets than we care to admit. However, there are many students who sit next to you in your university classes who, though they hide it well, are in desperate need of food.
This is why this year SUE is proud to participate in the Campus Food Bank’s Holiday Food Drive! This is a competition among clubs to donate the most food to fellow students who otherwise go hungry. SUE needs your help to make a difference! Donations will be accepted at Tuesday Nov 17th in MacEwan Student Center (table 203), Wednesday November 18th in MacEwan Student Center (table 205) and Thursday Nov 19th in ICT (table 1). We ask for non-perishable food items only and a detailed post with a list of most needed items will be posted on our blog. Stay tuned for more details on how you can help eliminate hunger and make SUE a winning club!
November Mentorship Program Mixer
If you attended the September Mentorship Mixer, you will remember what a blast it is when SUE's mentors and mentees get together. You can expect more of the same enthusiasm at this next mixer! As promised, this is going to be an informal, fun event where mentors and mentees will get a chance to hang out, learn from each other, and generally have a great time.
Join us on November 19th in EEEL 349 from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Refreshments will be provided! You can also look forward to a fun time spent together in community. Sharpen your trivia too as we will be having a group Jeopardy game with prizes!
CV and Resume Building Workshop
Come out for SUE's exclusive CV and Resume building afternoon at SS 403 on November 27th 3:00pm - 6:00pm. Come and learn how to write cover letters and the differences between a CV and a resume. Career specialists and peer support will be on site to help you learn how each should be formatted for maximum effect and why both are so important during your current and future career applications. All aspects of this seminar will be focused on Economics students and our particular needs because this is a SUE event. This event is particularly valuable if you are interested in learning about:
Directed CV's for Grad School Applications
Pointed cover letters for specific application situations
Directed Resumes for internships and employment
Co-op programs and how to apply
Keep an eye on our website and social media for new details.
INDUSTRY NIGHT GALA- Networking Opportunity!
SUE is proud to present our Industry Night Gala on February 3rd, 2016 at the Silver Springs Golf and Country Club. Although it feels like a long ways away, we encourage you to save the date for this amazing event! You will get to hear from keynote speakers Dr. Ron Kneebone of the School of Public Policy and Todd Hirsch, Head Economist at ATB.
This evening offers our members an opportunity to meet face to face with a diverse selection of industry professionals (at least 10 from a variety of backgrounds). You will get a personalized view of employment opportunities and hear directly from employed professionals about what careers are available with an Economics degree! The event is semi-formal and includes a delicious buffet dinner (who doesn't love great food?). This is the largest event for SUE this academic year and we are so excited for you to be there!
Tickets are only $20 for members and will be for sale on our website starting November 16th. We wish all of you could be there, but space is limited and this event is sure to sell out so reserve your spot early! As usual, stay tuned for more details.
Stay motivated and don't miss out on these awesome events we have planned for you!
