SUE October Newsletter

October 16, 2016

Happy October, everyone! How are midterms going? It’s a stressful time of year and SUE is here to help you. Don’t forget that weekly study sessions are held every Monday and Tuesday in SS403 from 5-6pm. They are respectively hosted by Tiara Kerr and Steve Myles and are open to any and all economics students seeking support in their classes. You should always feel free to stop by and ask questions, answer them, or simply work on your assignments with company.

Whether you’re in the middle of midterms, haven’t started, or are already done, come unwind with us at our second mixer of the year. Join us at the Den on Monday, October 17th from 4 to 6 to meet your fellow economics lovers and enjoy a free beer if you’re already part of SUE. If you can’t make it to the mixer, no worries, more events are rolling out through October and November:

  • Master is public policy information panel Monday October 24th in SA 119 from 4 to 5

  • Economics Society Pub Crawl November 10th

  • Post Midterms Night out at Knoxville’s November 25th

These are great opportunities to make friends in your field, make connections for later, and have fun despite the seriousness of classes. Please stay tuned for more details.

Do you have a costume but no plans for Halloween? Do you have a passion for ending hunger? Then sign up to be on SUE's Trick or Eat team! We will have a team going door to door Halloween night collecting non-perishable food items and donations in order to help reduce the consequences of poverty in Calgary. Sign up to join us or, if you already have plans, help us reach our goal by donating. https://secure.e2rm.com/registrant/TeamFundraisingPage.aspx?teamID=725828&langPref=en-CA#&panel1-2

Aside from all the incredible events coming up these next few months, it’s important to remember the ongoing programs SUE offers, notably the mentorship program. If you’re a first or second year wanting guidance from an upper classmen, or a higher year wanting to get in some volunteer hours and help out someone new to economics, you can find all the details about the program and its benefits on our website. Take advantage of either aspect of this while you can, it’ll be worth it in the long run to gain different perspectives and broaden your circle of connections. Everyone has something to offer someone else.
