Edi Lacic

Hey! My name is Edi, and I'm in the final year of my undergraduate degree in economics. I just completed an internship with TransAlta and I will be looking to return there in May. Long term I hope to complete either my MA or MSc.

Jessica Liu
VP Academic

Hi there, my name is Jessica Liu and I am in my fourth year of a combined degree in economics and computer science. I’m super excited to be involved with SUE again this year to continue building a strong and supportive economics community. I’ve been lucky to be part of both the honours cohort and the SUE team during my undergraduate degree - they’ve both greatly enriched my experience, so I hope to help other students also explore the many opportunities available to them! I’m passionate about learning, so outside of school I’ve enjoyed reading more about philosophy and psychology and learning new music on the piano when I have extra time (or feel extra stressed out). I also really enjoy connecting with others, so I’m always happy to go for a coffee if you’d like to reach out!

Tanya Snyder
VP External

Hi, I'm Tanya Snyder and I will be your Vice President External this 2019/2020 academic year. I am in my final year of a combined degree in Economics and International Relations at the University of Calgary. As VP External I am leveraging personal and business relationships in order to secure SUE's financial positions to ensure that we can resource events for SUE's membership. I also act as the contact for external sponsorships, partnerships and initiatives.

This year I am currently completing a year-long internship at Suncor Energy Inc. as a government and strategic relations co-op student. As this year comes to a close I will be pursuing a Masters in Public Policy with goals to eventually go to law school. My  hopes are to influence policy to enable efforts towards sustainable energy development. In my free time I can be found supporting local art and music around Calgary. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about internships, partnerships, or interdisciplinary degrees.

Samira Ayache
VP Communications

Hi, my name is Samira and I am a fourth-year Economics major and Developing Studies minor. I am originally from Lebanon, but I was born and raised in Canada.

My goal as VP Communications is to reach as many Econ students as possible, by sharing important networking opportunities that can help build a community of Economists!

I usually spend my summers in Lebanon, with the 150 members of my family. When I'm not studying, I love online shopping and trying exotic foods from different cultures.

Oriane Kacoutie
VP Events

Hey! My name is Oriane Kacoutié and I will be your Vice President Events for this year. I am currently in my fourth year of study with a combined degree in Economics and International Relations. I am from a beautiful country called Côte D’Ivoire and can be hyper sometimes! I am mostly interested in development in the Global South parts of the world as well as politics. Remember me, I can become the president of Côte D’Ivoire one day! I work with the SU as a Program and Events Assistant. You will see me around campus a lot! My hope this year is to create a strong sense of community and give the knowledge needed to our members to succeed in the field of economics and future career goals.

Ebenezer Belayneh
VP Finance

Hello everyone! My name is Ebenezer Belayneh, and I will be acting as your VP Finance this year. I am very excited to begin budgeting and financing all of SUE's 'new and improved' initiatives. My goal is to provide our members with valuable resources that can help them succeed both academically and professionally.

Asides from all that, I'm a proud Ethiopian that was born and raised in Canada. Fortunately, I ended up in a never-ending dual (Hons.) degree in Economics and Development Studies.

At school, I work as a strategic advisor for the Development Studies Club and the Faculty of Arts Student Association. I also supervise the Arts Lab (SS basement), which is the best place for me to introduce myself. When I'm not running around campus, I'm vlogging on my YouTube channel, mastering Brazilian martial arts, or searching for the next FREE FOOD event on campus! If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please reach out to me!

I came to the University of Calgary as an International Student to pursue my undergraduate degree and hopefully advance onto a graduate program after my undergrad at U of C. My interest in economics lies within the area of macroeconomics and public policy. My love for economics began right from high school, because I started taking economics classes from grade 10 back in my country. This will be my first year on the SUE team, and I will be your Director of Events. I am thrilled to work with the team to continue to generate opportunities for new and returning members of SUE. During my free time I love playing drums and reading journal articles on developing nations. I see myself having a career with the United Nations in the future, because the UN maintains international peace and security, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development goals (SDGs), protects human rights and uphold international law. I volunteer as a peer helper at the University of Calgary Office of Sustainability so feel free to walk in anytime and say hello!

I am originally from the Caribbean island, Trinidad, but after a few moves I have made Calgary my home. My long-term goals are to either pursue Law or continue my Economic journey and complete my masters. My life outside of the SUE includes volunteering on campus at the Faith and Spirituality Centre, as well as working my part-time job as a Brand Ambassador. In my spare time I work on my editorial skills, play video games and walk dogs! My dream goal is to set up an organization that works to help rehabilitate troubled dogs and find them loving homes.

Gabrielle Hanna

Hello, my name is Gabrielle and I am excited to be your Junior Executive for 2019/2020 SUE! This is my second year being involved in SUE and I pursued this role after enjoying the first year so much. Currently, I’m completing the combined BA/BCOMM degrees program. My main academic focus (and passion) is economics, however I also study risk management & insurance as well as German. I also work as a Junior Analyst for a local private equity firm. I love being able to apply what I’ve learned in the workforce: economics has been such a versatile field of study in my experience. I began studying at the University of Waterloo in Ontario where I grew up. I’ve only been in Calgary for two years where I live with my fiancé & puppy. Most of my free time is spent with those two, but I also enjoy going to coffee shops downtown – I’d love to connect & chat with you at one of them!

Through these experiences and through my academic career I found that there is extreme value in an economics degree, and I hope to be able to share my experiences with everyone. My goal is to foster the impact S.U.E has made in our community and contribute my creative, and enthusiastic nature to the organization and events this year as President.
