Chiamaka Ubakwelu

Hello! My name is Chiamaka Ubakwelu and I’m in my final year of Economics and Political Science. I was born and raised in Lagos Nigeria. I came to the University of Calgary as an International Student to pursue my undergraduate degree and hopefully advance onto a graduate program after my undergrad at U of C. Concerning economics, my interest in economics lies within the area of macroeconomics and monetary theory. My love for economics began right from high school, because I started taking economics classes from grade 10 back in my country. This will be my second year on the SUE team, and I will be your Executive Vice-President. I am thrilled to work with the team to continue to generate opportunities for new and returning members of SUE. During my free time I love playing drums and reading journal articles on developing nations. I see myself having a career with the United Nations in the future, because the UN maintains international peace and security, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development goals (SDGs), protects human rights and uphold international law. I volunteer as a peer helper at the University of Calgary Office of Sustainability so feel free to walk in anytime and say hello! I can also be reached by e-mail ( if you have any concerns or questions about SUE.
