Interested in how the market plays a role in turning on your heater and lights? Come attend our upcoming Talkonomics on October 30th! Our guest speaker, Dr. Sarah Johnston, is an associate professor in the Department of Economics (UofC). Her research specializes in industrial organization and environmental economics, which relates to our topic: how new electricity generations connect to the grid. Electrical generation doesn’t only concern engineers, but also the economic stakes of distributional equity, energy affordability, competitive market costs/benefits, grid reliability, transmission policies, and how to combat volatile market prices and weather shocks.
If you’re interested in further exploring her area, make sure to look her up on the university website (https://profiles.ucalgary.ca/sarah-johnston) and read her publications. We dearly appreciate Dr. Johnston for participating in our club’s mission to enrich students with economics in fields beyond business analytics!
